Ratings and Reviews
A barebones attempt, saved only by FLAC back up
TL;DR - feels like clunky abandonware and a missed opportunity. If yous desire to know more, read on.
I've used this app for a number of years, - on both the Mac and iOS. When I first started, it had a great value proposition: supporting FLAC on Mac and iOS, relatively simple and at the fourth dimension it was really the only service that had a cloud library.
However, at that place are a number of problems, and equally fourth dimension marches on, it has not been kind to VOX.
There are a number of issues that I want to highlight, in particular because the competition either does them just as well or better.
First: lack of any discovery features or any smarter ways to organise your library. The moment your music grows in any observable size, it becomes impossible to manage through the app, and scrolling long lists of either artists or albums is a poor experience. Considering information technology's listed in alphabetical order, it's also terrible for showing any kind of favourites that you can pull up quickly, or do any other user-friendly things. At present, one might say that it'south not a library management device, merely rather just a simple music player, - but I don't buy this.
Why? - they provide their ain cloud service to upload your music, which is more often than not fine, but since in that location'southward a content managed by the app and a backend that can announced in the UI. Not to mention the various integrations you can have with other services. It's already ventured at this point across a simple player. At that place'southward as well bloatware in form of "radio" - if y'all're concentrating on "simple music", don't include this in your actor.
Ii: continuing on the user experience, - for a native app on both platforms, there's surprisingly little support of the new features and user interface improvements. Navigation is clunky and non-intuitive, with weird custom components that don't feel premium or native, at least in 2021. No support of widgets, dark mode, or actually any other API that would make this app feel polished and at home on any given Os. It feels like abandonware, which for a service that happily takes your money for basic player features such every bit EQ is poor practice.
Further to that, - permit'south say you have a local upload of an anthology, and a music service integration that also features that album. In that location's absolutely no fashion to tell just past looking at them where the album is sourced from; they only appear in a listing, with no differentiation.
In that location are lots of other problems to selection with this app, and nosotros'd be here all twenty-four hours, then I'll circular off with one more than notation. This is more related to the mobile version, but I'm considering their service as a whole and therefore mobile is fair game. So, here:
- if you have your music in Vox Cloud, and the mobile app has the "cellular" switch prepare to "off", - the music just doesn't play. You don't get _any_ kind of feedback or proffer from the UI, - this should be 100% solved with a prompt, - preferably with a button that takes you straight to app'due south settings to have care of the problem. Without this, it only feels like the app is broken. This isn't simplicity, - this is simply laziness and bad pattern.
Take you guys given upwards?
Just a DOG!
Looked for itunes replacement but this Non it! Totally unintuative interface which leaves y'all scratching your head many times of 'what now'! Things don't respond in acceptable ways and before you know it it'south a mess!! Also no explanation if media files are linked from their current on disk location or really imported into plan, endeavour as I might to discover information technology in assistance files with no luck! So, al in all a very inadequate program with well-nigh no redeeming features, better stick to iTunes!!!!

Incorrectly reads iTunes
I sued to beloved this player but recent versions have been reading my iTunes library incorrectly. I take a lot of compilations and VOX keeps listing each track in a compilation as a separate album, more tripling the number of albums in my library and making it incommunicable to play whatever compilation album.
